HEART DISEASE

This is described as a range of conditions that affects the normal functioning of the heart. These diseases under the heart umbrella may include but are not limited to those affecting the blood vessels such as arrhythmias (heart rhythm problems), coronary artery disease and congenital heart defects (heart defects you are born with).

The term heart disease can also be used interchangeably with cardiovascular diseases. These diseases generally refer to a condition which involves the narrowing of the blood vessels that can lead to a heart attack, angina (chest pain) or stroke in extreme cases. The other heart conditions such as those affecting the heart’s muscles rhythm or valves are also considered as forms of heart diseases.
